How does Pilates work?
Pilates is a precise body-conditioning method that builds core strength, alignment, flexibility, and control. Created by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s, it has evolved while keeping his core principles. Today, Pilates is practised on the mat and on specialised equipment, using controlled movements and mindful breathing to target muscles effectively and support healthy posture.
Is Pilates Right for Me?
Pilates can support people experiencing:
Lower back or neck pain, scoliosis, shoulder or knee issues
Post-rehab needs (e.g., after joint replacement)
Reduced mobility or post-stroke recovery (with appropriate guidance)
You’ll learn to stabilise and strengthen the spine through all ranges of motion and for functional tasks (like squats), with attention to head and cervical alignment. Exercises are adaptable so you can work safely at your own pace.
What to Expect in Class
We use clear cues and imagery to help movements “click” in your body. Sessions may include small props such as resistance bands and a foam roller. Expect:
Precise movements + controlled breathing
Improved muscle tone, stability, and coordination
Options for beginner to intermediate levels
What to Bring / Wear
Comfortable fitted clothing (leggings/capris often better than loose shorts)
Barefoot or grip socks
Mat (please bring your own)
Any requested small props (e.g., elastic band, soft ball) if noted
